Chelsea’s last home game of the season is tomorrow night, and it’s a fairly significant one, even if there isn’t much riding on it in terms of our own ambitions. While there is still an outside chance that we finish in the Europa League positions, or perhaps the UEFA Conference League position, neither one of those is all that attractive (especially the latter), and it may even be better for Xabi Alonso’s prospects if we don’t have to deal with European football.
But where this game does matter is keeping
Spurs in with a chance at relegation. They are currently two points clear of the drop, with West Ham already down to their final game. Given the gulf in goal difference, Spurs need just a point from their next two games to avoid a most amusing outcome.
So there’s that added bit of spice to this rivalry, for which we arrive in fairly good health. Levi Colwill may be rested given that he’s only been back for three games after missing the entire season with an ACL, but otherwise, everyone not already shut down and ruled out for the season should be available — except maybe Roméo Lavia because … well, because Roméo Lavia.
“We need to be careful with Levi. He’s obviously off the back of a very serious injury and has performed well in those two games. We’ll see how he looks today, how he reports, and we’ll make a decision on that.”
“[Lavia] took a slight knock in the build-up to the [last] game. Nothing major, but with Roméo, we didn’t want to take that risk. I thought he was brilliant in the games that he did play, and he gave us a lot the same way Levi did, but we just have to be careful with players that have had that injury history.”
