Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has offered an update on Julian Alvarez amid continued speculation about his future.
Alvarez missed training for a third consecutive day on Friday, leading to more questions about his future at Simeone’s pre-match press conference.
“I understand that all the questions will be about Julián. The club has been very clear about what will happen,” he told reporters.
“From a sporting perspective, I hope to help him continue being as important to us as he still is. My focus
is on Sevilla, where he won’t be available against an opponent that has won both of its matches.”
Atletico have insisted this week that they will refuse to sell Alvarez to Barcelona, and Simeone thinks that the Argentina star can turn his situation around in the Spanish capital.
“When he returns, we’ll give him everything he needs to feel important,” he added. “In life, anything can be reversed, as long as we have our health.”
It now looks almost impossible for Barcelona to sign Alvarez in this window, but it remains to be seen what he will do. The forward is reportedly still keen to leave the club and his continued absence from training this week means the saga continues to make headlines.
