The Wisconsin Badgers keep splashing in the secondary in the transfer portal, with the latest addition being Ohio State Buckeyes transfer cornerback Bryce West, he announced on Tuesday.
West, a four-star
recruit in the Class of 2024, is an Ohio native and committed to the Buckeyes out of high school. However, he had an early injury during his first offseason at Ohio State and ultimately redshirted his freshman season, playing in four regular-season games.
In 2025, West was the backup nickel corner to senior Lorenzo Styles Jr., and was poised to compete for the starting job in 2026 before electing to transfer. He was one of two talented defensive backs for the Buckeyes who could’ve potentially started in 2026, but elected to transfer, joining Aaron Scott.
Coming out of high school, West was an elite athlete, posting a 10.93 in the 100-meter dash and 6.96 in the 60-meter dash. His elite speed and versatility will be keys for Wisconsin, as he could compete at both the nickel and the vacant outside cornerback spots.
At 5’11, 195 pounds, West is best suited for either the nickel role or the field corner spot. Wisconsin also added experienced Arizona State transfer cornerback Javan Robinson, who was an outside cornerback this season for the Sun Devils, but could also slide into the nickel spot at 5’11, 190. Robinson is a very solid run defender, which could play into that decision.
Wisconsin has quite a few snaps to fill at cornerback, losing its three starters from a season ago. That’s why they’ve been adding a ton of players in the secondary, with new cornerbacks coach Robert Steeples off to a hot start in the transfer portal.
So far, Wisconsin has added Oklahoma State cornerback Eric Fletcher (redshirt freshman in 2025), Florida State cornerback Cai Bates (redshirt freshman in 2025), Robinson (redshirt junior in 2025), and now West (redshirt freshman in 2025).
They join returning corners Omillio Agard (redshirt freshman in 2025), Cairo Skanes (true freshman in 2025), Jahmare Washington (true freshman in 2025), Jai’mier Scott (true freshman in 2025), and incoming freshmen Carson Eloms and Donovan Dunmore.
So, Wisconsin will have quite a young cornerback room, but one with a ton of untapped potential and plenty of snaps to compete for in 2026.
