Creativity is an incredible thing and also impossible to explain. What works for one person creatively never works for another. How could it? The creative process is as individual as fingerprints.
For most
of us, creating something is an occasional spark, but for people who make a living creatively, well, you’d better keep the new stuff coming. Otherwise, your career will come to an early end.
One of the most profoundly creative musical groups of all time was the Beatles. Originally the band was driven by a partnership between John Lennon and Paul McCartney. As time went on though, Lennon damaged his creative output by drug abuse and George Harrison matured into a great songwriter in his own right.
In the late 1960’s, the band began to fracture. However, they still made great music until the end.
One of the best songs on the Let It Be album was Get Back, but they weren’t getting along and there was a lot of pressure to come up with a catchy single.
In this video, we get to watch the creation of Get Back in real time. It’s pretty amazing to watch these guys just pull this out of their rear end. If you don’t know the finished song, here it is. A young Billy Preston plays keyboards which just makes it perfect.
Infighting broke the band up; Let It Be would be their final album and Get Back was the final track. It was a pretty great way to go out.
