If you have followed the coach-player relationship between Julian Nagelsmann wants Leroy Sané over the years at Bayern Munich and with the German national team, you know it has been one rife with opportunity for the player.
Through slumps and underperforming, the coach just has a soft spot in his heart for the player. Now, the resolve will be tested in a big way.
Sané was poor vs. Switzerland as a starter and good as a sub vs. Ghana, which did not exactly lock down a starting lineup spot or even a roster
spot per Nagelsmann.
“The way he played against Switzerland wasn’t enough. When he comes on like he did today [vs Ghana] and plays that well, then it’s good. He had a couple of decisive moments. It now depends on what he does over the next eight weeks. But that doesn’t just apply to him. It applies to other players as well,” said Nagelsmann (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
This is where it could be difficult for the winger. Sané only has six goals and eight assists for Galatasaray and has seen his role lessen a bit in recent weeks. What if Sané does not have a strong eight weeks? Will Nagelsmann be able to exclude him from the World Cup roster?
