Barcelona manager Hansi Flick offered some words of encouragement for Gavi as the young midfielder is once again struggling with his surgically repaired knee.
Gavi was ruled out of the match against Rayo Vallecano before the international break, and there’s growing concern regarding his status as Gavi might be headed for a second surgery to address an issue with his meniscus if the conservative treatment doesn’t work as intended.
But his coach is optimistic. Speaking at a press conference on Saturday,
Flick spoke about Gavi’s heart and mentality and encouraged him to stay positive and confident so he can come back at his best. The boss also made it clear there will be no pressure on Gavi to return as quickly as possible.
“Gavi can be the heart of this team. His mentality is incredible. He was afraid of what could happen with his injury. Now he has to work and strive and wait to see how it develops. We have to see. We shouldn’t pressure him with this situation. He’ll come back when he’s better and has confidence in his knee.”
Flick gives no timetable or a clear direction, so we can’t rule out surgery just yet, which is the worrying part. Even if it’s a minor operation, having to fix that knee through surgery once again is not great news for Gavi, so here’s hoping the conservative treatment does its job and Barça’s warrior can be back at 100%.
