Penn State defeated Nebraska 37-10 this past weekend, and inched one step closer to bowl eligibility.
The big story, however, was the record-setting running back duo of Kaytron Allen and Nicholas Singleton.
Over the last few weeks we’ve been keeping an eye as they’ve crept closer and closer to the top of the record books, and this past weekend there was some major movements.
First, and most notably, Kaytron Allen is now the leading career rusher for the Penn State Nittany Lions!
Kaytron carried the ball
25 times for 160 yards and 2 touchdowns, and now has 3,954 yards to his name, passing Evan Royster to take the top spot. With (at least) one more game to go, Allen will look to pad that lead, and potentially become the first 4,000-yard rusher in Penn State history. Let’s go Kaytron!
Nicholas Singleton also moved up the record books, and is now tied with Saquon Barkley for the most career rushing touchdowns at 43. If Singleton is able to tack one more rushing TD on next week, he will take over the top spot, and put a cherry on top of a remarkable pair of careers for Penn State running backs.
What’s even more exciting about it is that the two of them have been RB1A/RB1B their entire career – neither has been the feature back, and yet they’re both at or near the top of the record books.
They’ll both have (at least) one more crack at it this week when the Lions take on Rutgers, as no games are guaranteed after that, and even if a bowl game came into play, there’s still the chance that players may opt out. So, let’s all hope that the Lions stick with the run game against the Scarlet Knights, and we’re all here next week marveling at the careers of Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen.
One down, one to go!
