2026 five-star prospect Anthony Thompson is set to announce his commitment in less than two weeks.
According to On3’s Joe Tipton, Thompson will announce his commitment on Tuesday, October 21.
The 6-8 wing is viewed as one of the top 10 prospects in the 2026 class. The talented left-hander from Ohio ranks 8th in the 247 Sports Composite rankings and 5th in the Rivals rankings.
Kentucky is among the finalists, along with Indiana, Texas, North Carolina, Ohio State, and Michigan. However, Indiana and Ohio State have
been viewed as the top two contenders with Ohio State originally being viewed as the frontrunner. Indiana has been gaining a lot of momentum lately, and the Hoosiers might be the team to beat headed into the home stretch.
Rivals reporter Jamie Shaw just logged his (sort of) prediction for where Thompson lands. Shaw’s prediction is that Thompson will either pick the Ohio State Buckeyes or the Indiana Hoosiers, with a 50% confidence level. He also has the Texas Longhorns as the biggest threat outside of those two, so it sounds like Kentucky isn’t even in the top three contenders for the top-10 prospect.
Thompson visited Kentucky last month, but with the recent reports of Tyran Stokes favoring Kentucky, one would think that’s a big reason why the Wildcats seem to be an outsider in this recruitment.
Thompson is an intriguing prospect and has the ability to be an immediate contributor as a freshman. It will be interesting to see how this recruitment unfolds over the next several days.
