There was a bit of news across Major League Baseball because there were two deadlines this Tuesday. Teams had to add players to their 40-man roster or else they would be available for the rule-five draft
and free agents with qualifying offers had to make a decision about whether to sign it or test the market.
Phillies News:
- Kyle Schwarber and Ranger Suárez declined the qualifying offer and continue to be free agents this winter.
- With Trent Grisham accepting for the Yankees, Harrison Bader is the clear-cut best free agent center fielder this winter.
- The Phillies selected Andrew Painter, Gabriel Rincones Jr., and Alex McFarlane to the 40-man roster.
MLB News:
- Plenty of players were DFA’d today, including JJ Bleday on the (should still be in Oakland) Athletics, Rockies first baseman Michael Toglia, and Rays infielder Christopher Morel.
- 4 players accepted the QO this year, Gleyber Torres returns to the Tigers, Grisham remains a Yankee, Brandon Woodruff will make a lot of money on the Brewers, and Shota Imanaga stays with the Cubs.
- Jeff Passan of ESPN wrote a big preview about the 2025-26 off-season and apparently, the Pirates are interested in Kyle Schwarber.
