A couple of years ago, when trying to find content to for every day of December, I polled the readers to see what they wanted me to write about. And the winner was The Hamburglar!
Since that post went over
well, I’ve decided to re-visit everyone’s favorite thief of McDonaldland! If you are unfamiliar with the McDonaldland mythos and don’t feel like writing my previous post, here’s a quick synopsis: The Hamburglar attempts to steal McDonalds hamburgers, and is usually thwarted by Ronald McDonald, but then they’re all friends in the end, and Hamburglar ends up getting his meal anyway.
I mean, I get it. It’s clear that Hamburglar isn’t all there, and he doesn’t mean much harm, so why not toss him a burger or two? On the other hand, with the way fast food prices have risen in the past few years, it’s probably harder for Ronald to just be giving out freebies. I wonder if the board of directors gave him a talking to and told him he needed to be stingier with the handouts.
Speaking of Ronald McDonald, I came across this tweet the other day and I laughed way too hard:
It’s safe to say that version of Ronald wouldn’t be laughing and handing Hamburglar some cheeseburgers after he caught him.
Finally, to put a Phillies’ spin on this article, I’ve compared a few Phillies to McDonalds menu items:
McRib: Kyle Schwarber – Yes, it can sort of disappear for stretches, but it certainly packs a punch, and everyone seemed really happy when it came back.
Cookies: Cristopher Sanchez – McDonalds’ cookies are great, and tragically underrated.
McFlurry: Jhoan Duran – A great way to finish off a meal.
McChicken: Alec Bohm – It’s okay, but you can’t help but wonder if there was a better option out there.
Egg McMuffin: Trea Turner – There’s some value in starting your day with one, but when you need a solid meal later in the day, it probably won’t work.
Shamrock Shakes: Ranger Suarez – These are great when they’re around, but you just can’t count on getting one all year long.
Arch Deluxe: Nick Castellanos – May have seemed like a good idea at the time but is pretty much universally regarded as an expensive mistake.
If you have any other good comparisons, please share them in the comments!
