Darian DeVries could be getting some good news just prior to his trip up north to Chicago for Big Ten Media Days.
Darius Wabbington, a center in the class of 2027 and a high-priority recruiting target for Indiana men’s basketball, is set to announce his college decision at 5 p.m. ET on Tuesday, per his social media.
He attends Sunnyslope High School in Phoenix, Arizona and is rated as a 5-star prospect by 247Sports, ranking in as the 12th highest-rated prospect overall and 2nd highest-rated center.
He’d join guard Chase Branham and fellow center Felix Kiehlneker as members of the Hoosiers’ 2027 class, should he pick Indiana.
He’s down to a final three of Indiana, Arizona and fellow Big Ten program Illinois, having taken visits to all three within the past month. The Hoosiers were among Wabbington’s final six programs before landing a visit. Kentucky, North Carolina, Louisville and Texas found themselves cut out while Illinois entered the race late to make the final three.
Indiana is up against major competition here, with the Wildcats and Fighting Illini both coming off of Final Four appearances in Indianapolis, no less. Landing a commitment for Wabbington would be huge for DeVries and the rest of the Indiana staff, who’ve sought out a center of the future since arriving in Bloomington.
