Real Madrid confirmed that Éder Militão underwent successful surgery for a rupture of the proximal tendon of the biceps femoris muscle in his left leg. The procedure took place in Finland and was performed by Dr. Lasse Lempainen under the supervision of the club’s medical services.
The club stated that Militão will begin his recovery process in the coming days.
The Brazilian defender made the decision to undergo surgery after a period of consideration, during which he also evaluated the possibility
of conservative treatment. That alternative would have reduced his recovery time to approximately five weeks and could have allowed him to participate in the World Cup with Brazil. However, it carried a significantly higher risk of relapse.
Following the operation, Militão is expected to be sidelined for between five and six months.
After the surgery, Militão shared a message on social media confirming that the procedure went well. “Everything is fine, thank God. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone for the messages of support,” he wrote, alongside a photo with his wife, Tainá Castro Militão.
He later posted another message expressing gratitude to those close to him. “Those who live with me know how much I’ve dedicated myself and worked hard to be in my best physical condition, but unfortunately, I have to take care of my body so I can play with confidence for Real Madrid and the National Team,” he said.
Militão also thanked those who sent him messages of support and acknowledged his family, including his wife and children. “To everyone who sent me messages of affection and support, my sincerest thanks. And also to everyone who is by my side, my family, my children, my wife @tainamilitao, know that the fight continues, because the best is yet to come.”
