Barcelona may be scoring goals for fun this season but the search for a new No. 9 is still continuing behind the scenes after a summer spent chasing – and ultimately failing to land – Julian Alvarez.
Reporter Matteo Moretto has been talking about the situation amid speculation that Alvarez is about to sign with Rodri’s agent and says that Barca might now be looking elsewhere.
Moretto told Radio Marca: “Julián has not signed with anyone. Pablo Barquero (Rodri’s agent) has a little more advantage right
now, but it is not yet closed. There is Pastore too. I think the race is still open, but Julián wants to be calm.
Moretto then looked to the future and the possibility of Alvarez leaving Atletico next summer: “I don’t want to rule out Barça 100%. They know how much Julián would like to wear this shirt. The other news I have is that Barça are evaluating another 9,” he added.
Barca were linked with dozens of striker last summer as well as Alvarez. Eli Kroupi Junior’s name cropped up many times, while Barca are also thought to be keen on Nicolo Tresoldi.
