Five games on tap for Thursday and while we thought none of them were interesting…we stand corrected. First the likely blah.
Jackson State plays at Louisville, The Citadel is at Boston College, Texas A&M-Corpus
Christi visits SMU and Wright State visits Cal.
Not to say none of these can’t possibly be good, but the one we’re betting on?
Bethune-Cookman at Miami. And why that one?
Because of what happened at Auburn Monday night before falling, 95-90.
But that’s not all.
Bethune-Cookman plays in the SWAC, which is not normally a place you would find a McDonald’s All-American. However, the Wildcats have one, and he might ring a bell for some of you: Arterio Morris, a 6-4 guard from Dallas.
Morris started at Texas playing for Chris Beard. He was accused of assault there but was not suspended. After he was accused of assaulting his fiancée, Beard was fired. Morris transferred to Kansas, where he was accused of rape, but charges were eventually dropped.
He then transferred to a JUCO and is now at Bethune-Cookman.
Leaving his questionable history behind, we’re not saying this is definitely the case, but it is possible that Morris is the best player on the floor Thursday night, and we would probably argue that Auburn is a better team than Miami.
However, the Wildcats will not catch the ‘Canes unaware. Still, this will be interesting.
He had 20 points at Auburn, incidentally.
The other games should be, as noted, blah. Jackson State will likely be crushed by Louisville. The Citadel might have a chance at BC, but the game would probably still not be great. SMU should smoke A&M-Corpus Christi like a cheap cigar. Wright State probably has a better recent basketball history than Cal and we wouldn’t put it past them to win it, but working against them is the cross-country travel for a road game.
No, all things considered, Bethune-Cookman at Miami is the one we find most interesting.
The most interesting ACC game that’s coming up though is Friday’s matchup between Kansas and UNC in the Dean Dome. We’ll get a look at Caleb Wilson and Kansas star freshman Darryn Peterson, a guard who has already drawn comparisons to Kobe Bryant.
