The final weekend of this season is all about Justin Verlander, celebrating the final bow of one of Detroit’s greatest players of all time and a sure-thing first-ballot Hall of Famer. On Friday, ahead of the Tigers’ game against the Pirates, Verlander was surrounded by family, friends, and former teammates to kick the weekend off. He gave a touching speech, and then his daughter Genevieve threw out the ceremonial first pitch of the game.
Genevieve, only eight years old, seems to have taken a few pointers
from her proud papa, because she stood confidently on the pitching mound and threw out a perfect first pitch, something we’ve seen fully grown adults falter on time and time again. You’d expect no less from the daughter of a superstar pitcher, but she also did it in style, sporting some boots that probably might not be advisable for most pros, but she made it look easy. Don’t think even JV himself could have done that well in a skirt and ankle boots.
Verlander spoke to the press about helping Genevieve prepare for her big moment.
