What is the story about?
So as it turns out Charlie McAvoy actually is quite an important part of the team. Who knew?
Let’s just suffer through the highlights together you don’t need the play-by-play.
I would say maybe Tim Stutzle should be a Bruin on account of all the germans showing up here, but maybe avoiding the entire league s#!tting their drawers about his play would be a service.
Anyway, Tim Stutzle schools the B’s defense twice, the blueliners struggled all night with breakouts, and James Hagens got his 2nd goal of the year.
4-1 B’s Lost. Feels bad.
Game Notes
- This was a flat effort. The Bruins couldn’t get anything done at even strength against the Sens to the point it felt like there was an extra skater in white all night. Part of that was two flubs of the puck near the blueline that got Tim Stutzle on breakouts, which while he may be a certified embellishment king, he’s also pretty good at scoring goals…and this squad is ill-equipped to handle breakouts from the middle of the ice like that. Every goal after those two were just icing on a disastrously built cake that made it abundantly clear; this defense both misses it’s 1D and the balance that brings it badly.
- Also probably not a good sign if David Pastrnak, JJ Peterka, or Mark Kastelic don’t have points, nobody else does either. The offseason was a decent start but the Bruins can’t be hemmed in their own end like that. Those grinders need to get the guys who can shoot the damn puck. Otherwise, what the hell are you grinding for? Cardio?
- I’ll give Nikita Zadorov some credit here; he recognized that they played like ass and vowed to make sure that something like this never happens again. With Utah coming to town, I think a trial by fire on this particular issue will suit this team well.
- The only goal scorer in Black and Gold also held himself accountable for a couple of the goals happening, but me and Marco are taking the same tack; this is a learning experience, he’s a kid, and he’s got plenty of growing to do as a player at this level. This is gonna happen. How the fanbase reacts to it, famously not an especially patient one, is going to be intriguing.
- The Sens feel like they’re going to be a real sort of problem for the rest of the division. I’m really hoping it’s just early and they’re riding a bunch of teams being unsure of themselves, but goddamn that was a brutal game and their first game against Toronto didn’t make their opponents look especially great either.
- Jeremy Swayman getting actively doubted in the gamethread in spite of most statistical analysis suggesting he’s pretty good. You’ve officially made it as a Bruins goaltender, buddy. Wear that jersey with pride.
- By the way he had an .833 but given the way the Bruins were playing that seems pretty fair for what was happening in front of him.
- There are 84 games, and we’ve got 4 of them down. I think we can get to say…10-20 games in before we start panicking, right? I mean, they basically had no preseason; some of these points are just up for grabs because teams are still rusty. Nothing is for certain yet.
The B’s take on their first western conference foe
of the year; the Utah Mammoth, who are quietly in control of a wild card spot and the third best goal differential out in those time zones.
That game is on Thursday at 7pm. We’ll see you there.
