Blake Corum is not the starting running back for the Los Angeles Rams, yet, but should the Rams give Corum a chance to start? Should the Rams give Corum the chance to see what he can do with 20-30 touches in a game? I think the bigger theme is the Rams should lean on their ground game, even when trailing sometimes.
Williams has been a stud for the Rams. Yes, he’s had some fumbling woes, but he also totes the rock a ton for L.A., and fumbles are a part of the game. Williams may have a bit more burst
than Williams, but Williams has plenty of experience. Williams has been a stout pass blocker, Corum is still learning.
Corum has likely continued to learn the playbook since joining the Rams, so perhaps he’s ready for more work. That work and development seemed to pay off this past Sunday. If you feel Corum should start over Williams then tell us why and have fun with this hypothetical exercise!
Kyren Williams’ Fumble Opens Door for Blake Corum in Rams’ Backfield (athlonsports)
“Locked On Rams co-host Gavin Carlson raised the possibility that the distribution reflected more than a standard rotation, pointing to Corum’s heavy involvement after a pass-heavy opening possession. Co-host Travis Rodgers said he was more open to the idea that Williams’ comments following the Arizona Cardinals loss, combined with the turnover against Las Vegas, could have prompted McVay to make a subtle point without removing his starter from the lineup.
McVay still has a clear reason to keep Williams heavily involved. The Rams’ unofficial depth chart lists Williams ahead of Corum, and Carlson noted that Williams maintained a substantial edge in passing-game usage against the Raiders. Rodgers argued that pass protection remains especially important with quarterback Matthew Stafford at the center of the offense, making it difficult to treat the rushing split as a full referendum on the starting job.“
Blake Corum says Rams aren’t worried about their playoff chances (ramswire)
“The Los Angeles Rams aren’t focused on their 3-4 record or their playoff chances as they look to build momentum following their Week 7 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. Running back Blake Corum said the message inside the locker room has been to focus on getting better each day rather than looking too far ahead.
“No one’s worried about our record. No one’s worried about, oh, you know, are we going to make the playoffs?” Corum said on The Rich Eisen Show. “It’s more so like we know what we have to do. Let’s work and let’s go do it and let’s do it to our best ability.”
Rams Face Mounting Trade Deadline Pressure as NFC West Rivals Make Major Moves (si.com)
“The Los Angeles Rams may have changed the course of their season with a win over the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, but they still have work to do to remain competitive. The NFC West remains one of the more competitive divisions in the NFL. With the Seattle Seahawks trading for All-Pro guard Quenton Nelson, and the San Francisco 49ers acquiring DeForest Buckner, the pressure is on for the Rams to make a corresponding move if they want to remain competitive with the Seahawks and 49ers.
While the 49ers may be the favorites to win the division, the battle for second place and a wild card spot in the playoffs is up for grabs. After the Seahawks beat the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football, it’s clear they believe they are in position to push for that spot and do what they can to try and repeat. “
Will Puka Nacua’s Body Hold Up? Rams Star Takes the Hits Jaxon Smith-Njigba Avoids (athlonsports)
“The show was echoing Roddy White, who said on “Up & Adams” last week, “I don’t know how long he’s going to last in the NFL to be quite honest…he keeps running into everyone, he keeps getting hurt.” White compared Nacua to Cooper Kupp. The history backs the concern. Nacua missed five games in 2024 after re-aggravating a knee injury, sprained an ankle in 2025 and has already missed two games this season.
His job doesn’t get any lighter. Nacua played 28 run-blocking snaps against Las Vegas and earned an 80.4 run-blocking grade to go with an 86.8 overall grade, according to PFF. Matthew Stafford called him the most physical receiver “that I’ve ever been around,” and with Davante Adams on injured reserve, the targets keep coming his way. Nacua led the Rams in catches, yards and targets Sunday, even as Kyren Williams and Blake Corum carried the offense on the ground.“
Rams have hardest remaining schedule in NFL based on this metric (ramswire)
“The playoffs are still well within reach, but if the Rams are going to make the postseason, they’re certainly going to earn it.
According to Ben Baldwin, the Rams’ remaining schedule is the toughest in the NFL. That’s based on the average remaining opponent win percentage against a league-average team on a neutral field.
The Rams’ schedule is clearly the toughest, with an opponent win percentage of more than 55% in such projections, while the Bengals’ is by far the easiest, well below 45%.“
First Look: Rams host Chargers at SoFi Stadium in Week 8 (larams.com)
“Selected former Florida offensive lineman Jake Slaughter in the second round of this year’s draft: Slaughter has started every game at center for the Chargers so far this season. Originally competing for the starting left guard job in the preseason, he pivoted to center exclusively after starter Tyler Biadasz sustained a season-ending knee injury in the Chargers’ joint practice with the 49ers on Aug. 18.
Top performers in Week 6 (Chargers had a Week 7 bye)
Quarterback Justin Herbert completed 22 of 37 pass attempts for 204 yards with one interception in the Chargers’ 22-6 home loss to the Chiefs.
Herbert also led the Chargers in rushing with five carries for 26 yards.“
Sean McVay ‘couldn’t care less’ what Chargers’ record is (ramswire)
“Sean McVay knows the Chargers haven’t won a game yet, and he “couldn’t care less.” Whether an opponent is 0-6 or 6-0, McVay is fully aware that his team has to be ready because in the NFL, anyone can beat anyone.
And as he has said in the past, this league can humble you in a hurry.
“Humility is a day away,” McVay said of his message to the team. “This is a good team. The records and stuff, with the way that this season and the way that everything’s gone in this league, anybody can beat anybody. I would hope that we’re mature and professional enough to know that we have to be able to have the right focus, concentration, level of urgency. This is professional football. They have great players. They’re really well coached. I couldn’t care less about what their record is. We’ll get humbled if we’re not ready to go.”
Matthew Stafford Jokes His Rams Touchdown Record Means He’s Old as the Chargers Come to Town (sports.yahoo)
“Somewhere in Inglewood, a few longtime season-ticket holders who watched Roman Gabriel at the Coliseum just saw his name slide down a list. Matthew Stafford hit Puka Nacua for a touchdown in the Los Angeles Rams’ 35-21 win over the Raiders on Sunday, and it gave him 155 touchdown passes with the franchise, one more than Gabriel’s 154.
Stafford was asked after the game what it meant. “It just means you’re old and you’ve played a lot of ball,” he said, according to MLive. He also credited the people around him, saying, “Catching touchdowns and throwing touchdowns isn’t a one-man job.”
Los Angeles Rams May Have a New Backfield Question After Win (athlonsports)
“Williams still produced 99 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries, but his lost fumble at the Rams’ 30-yard line gave the Raiders a chance to cut into the lead. Las Vegas failed to capitalize, yet the turnover arrived after Williams had met with McVay to clarify a critical comment in the locker room following the previous week’s loss to the Arizona Cardinals.
Locked On Rams host Travis Rodgers interpreted Corum’s prominent use after the opening series as a possible coaching message, although he stopped short of presenting it as confirmation that McVay disciplined Williams.“
Rams’ growing uncertainty could give the Patriots a real shot at Puka Nacua (mustketfire.com)
“Pair that with a disappointing season so far, as the Rams go into Week 8 with a 3-4 record despite being the heavy Super Bowl favorites, there’s a chance they’re headed for a rebuild, and that might not include Nacua.
That’s where the Patriots come into play.
If Puka Nacua becomes available, the Patriots need to be all over that opportunity
Assuming no major changes to the Patriots’ receiving corps next spring, Brown and Doubs are expected to remain Drake Maye’s 1-2 punch. The rest of the group, however, could change, with DeMario Douglas and Mack Hollins heading to free agency.“
Comment of the day:
“While our opponents are picking up starting DT’s & OG’s we have another ace special team guy. I can hardly hold myself back from joy just to see the same special team unit .” -ad99
