The transfer commitments keep rolling in for Jason Candle and his staff, and they just got a big one.
Quarterback Jake Merklinger, a former four-star prospect who started his career with the Tennessee Volunteers,
has announced his commitment to transfer to UConn.
Merklinger made four appearances last year as a redshirt freshman and two as a true freshman after enrolling at Tennessee out of Calvary Day HS in Georgia. In high school, Merklinger was named the 2022 Offensive Player of the Year by the Savannah Quarterback Club and earned Region 3-3A Player of the Year honors. He was Rivals’ 12th-ranked QB in the Class of 2024, no. 201 overall, with offers from numerous power-conference programs.
The Huskies’ newest commit joins a QB room that includes returnee Tucker Macdonald as well as Toledo transfer Kalieb Osborne and Class of 2026 commit Bo Polston. Merklinger and Osborne will likely be the leading candidates for starting duties this fall.
