Former kicker for the Los Angeles Rams’ Harrison Mevis held an “impressive” workout for the Kansas City Chiefs, along with longtime NFL kicker Justin Tucker. Reportedly the Chiefs went with Tucker due to experience, and not for a lack of effort or impressiveness on Mevis’ part.
It’s another example of one’s teams’ discarded kicker being another teams’ potential answer. In this case, Mevis didn’t get the job, but Tucker will seemingly get the shot to replace Harrison Butker, who has been struggling as the kicker for the Chiefs in 2026.
Butker will try to hold his job down with a strong performance against the Denver Broncos this Sunday.
Tucker, was not on an NFL team likely due to off the field issues more than performance, so he’ll perhaps get a new chance with a new team after his time away from the game.
For Mevis, he was solid for the Rams in 2025 with 92% of his field goals made. 2026 didn’t go so well for Mevis as he hit about 50% of his kicks before being released by the Rams after his blocked kick in overtime against the Buffalo Bills earlier this year. Sean McVay reported the kick would’ve missed regardless of the block, and that was the final straw for Mevis with the Rams.
Of course, with how desperate the Rams have been to find a kicker, though unlikely, maybe Mevis one day makes his return to L.A. By all reports, Mevis is still available, and his latest workout was “impressive”.
If not the Rams, then perhaps that “impressive” workout will lead to another gig in the NFL, or another gig in the NFC West.
