The Detroit Lions (2-1) will take on the Carolina Panthers (1-2) on “Sunday Night Football” in Week 4, and while the Lions were on the practice field, the Panthers held a walkthrough. The Lions have only a handful of names on this week’s initial injury list—including two new additions—but the Panthers are dealing with several injuries suffered over the past few weeks, including needing to place both starting corners, Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson, on injured reserve.
Let’s take a look at Wednesday’s
injury report and get you up to date with what we know.
Note: Any changes from the most recent injury report will be bolded.
Injured list updates
- RB Isiah Pacheco (MCL/Back) — IR, expected to be out until December
- C Cade Mays (Wrist) — IR, eligible to begin practicing in Week 5
- OL Giovanni Manu (Undisclosed) — NFI, eligible to begin practicing in Week 5
- S Brian Branch (Achilles) — PUP, eligible to begin practicing at any time
- S Kerby Joseph (Knee) — PUP, eligible to begin practicing at any time
- S Thomas Harper (ankle) — IR, eligible to begin practicing in Week 7
Mays will need to sit out at least one more week due to injured reserve-return rules, but coach Dan Campbell believes the Lions starting center should be available to practice by the Lions bye week (Week 6).
“He’d be ready to play in the bye week. That was kind of always the goal was, man, can we get him after the bye? And he’s doing a good job right now, but I don’t want to put a timetable just yet on it.”
Harper was placed on injured reserve ahead of last Sunday’s game, and while he’ll be eligible to return to practice in Week 7, Campbell said there was too much unknown about his injury at this time to project when he’ll be available.
“We’ll see on that. I just know he won’t be here for four weeks for sure.”
No practice
- G Ben Bartch (foot)
- EDGE DJ Wonnum (back) — NEW Addition
Bartch missed all of last week’s practices with a foot injury that has apparently carried over into this week as well. With eight other offensive linemen on the active roster and Christian Mahogany settling into the starting left guard role, the Lions can take their time with Bartch.
Wonnun didn’t appear to injure himself in last Sunday’s game against the Jets, and didn’t seem bothered by an injury in the locker room after the game either. With not much known about his absence, we won’t have a clear understanding of his status until we see Thursday’s injury report and speak with Campbell on Friday.
Limited practice
- D.J. Reed (rib) — NEW addition
Like Wonnum, Reed played a full game and didn’t appear to suffer a known injury, so fans will need to be patient while we learn more about his rib injury.
Full practice
- None
No longer on the injury report
- LG Christian Mahogany (hip)
- RT Blake Miller (knee)
- RG Tate Ratledge (elbow)
- EDGE Ahmed Hassanein (illness)
- LS Hogan Hatten (wrist)
The players in this section were on last week’s injury report but are now healthy enough to no longer be on the daily injury report.
The interior offensive line looked sharp against the Jets, and their injuries didn’t appear to be a factor. With them all off the injury report, they’re all expected to play again on Sunday night.

The Panthers held a walkthrough on Wednesday, meaning participation levels are estimates based on coaches’ opinions.
