It’s time. The end of the Apertura 2025 has come. With only one more week to go, six teams are battling for the last two tickets in the postseason tournament.
Teams and chances
Cruz Azul, Juárez, León, Pumas, Atlas and Atlético de San Luis are all vying for the remaining playoff spots.
However, it’s the first three that have the better chances for qualifying. Cruz Azul, “The Machine”, has the better chances coming into this final week since they only need a draw in week 17 to qualify. The thing is, they have to get
the result against the best team in the tournament, Tigres.
In the case of León, they need to win to secure a place in the playoffs. If they draw, they will have to wait for a combination of results to happen. The good thing is that their opponent for the finale haven’t done well this season and the result is achievable.
In the case of León, a win won’t suffice since they also must have Juárez failing to win against Querétaro. Pumas is in a similar position; they have to win and wait for Juárez’s result.
In the case of Atlas and Atlético de San Luis, they still have mathematical chances to qualify and need tons of help.
Tigres is set to finish on top
These Amazonians have been getting their mojo back little by little this season. Not only did they perform well in the second part of the season but they’re also are in the top of the table. Pachuca, the reigning champion, is second in the table and only two points shy, which makes this final week so important.
If they want to leapfrog Tigres, they will need to win against Tijuana in week 17 and expect that Cruz Azul bests Tigres. Is it possible? Anything can happen and more so after the international break. However, let’s remember that the Amazonians have done well on both ends, offensively (58 goals in favor) and defensively (nine goals against).
The fact that half the team is with their national teams shouldn’t be taken lightly. Tired legs and rotations can be pivotal in this last week and end up deciding who finishes on top. Also, once they’re back, they won’t be able to count on Jheniffer Cordinali since she was sent off last game for losing her mind in the game against Atlético de San Luis.
Despite that, Tigres has been the most consistent team this season and its new signings have been the key to finding its rhythm. Will they be able to finish on top?
In other news, Tigres will participate in the W7F (World Seven Football), a seven-a-side tournament that will be hosted in Fortlaudele, Florida. In this way, they joined Club América, Flamengo, Deportivo Cali, and Toronto. However, three more unknown teams will be revealed soon since it’s an eight-team tournament.
The W7F is a three-day tournament that will be played from December 5 to December 7.
Charlyn Corral keeps breaking records
Pachuca’s Charlyn Corral has been unstoppable for many seasons now, and this one isn’t anything new for the star.
In week 16, Tuzas played Chivas and after they bested them 2-1, the striker added another tally to her tab. In doing so, she reached 22 goals this tournament, breaking Liga MX Femenil’s 21-goal record set by herself in the Clausura 2025 season.
Not only that, but Corral leads in assists as well with 10.
That means that with only one week to go, Corral has secured the Golden Boot award once again. Unless Aerial Chavarin, the player who’s second in the league’s top goalscorer race, scores five goals next week, Corral will win her fifth back-to-back Golden Boot award.
