The Tubi era of MLW is upon us, so let’s jump back into the groove for weekly Fusion recaps. This episode featured Killer Kross looking for a challenger to the world title, Stardom’s H.A.T.E. making their MLW debut in the ring, CMLL luchadores Templario and Soberano Jr. thrilling with lucha libre, and more taped from New York City.
If you are new to MLW, now is as good a time as any to jump in. The intro package hit the key notes to catch up to speed for the most part.
Killer Kross was about to address
who could be the next challenger for the MLW World Heavyweight Championship. He was interrupted by the Skyscrapers. Kross created tension within the duo by complimenting Josh Bishop’s toughness, then Donovan Dijak tried to take the spotlight as captain. Matt Riddle arrived to even the odds. Plus, Kross owes him one. Bishop bum-rushed Riddle, and a melee ensued. When the dust cleared, Scarlett Bordeaux passed a suggestion to Kross for a New York City street fight tag team match. MLW booked it for next week.
Templario defeated Soberano Jr. Sweet lucha libre action that got physical with a variety of powerbombs. Templario surged in the end for a brutal backbreaker to win. Enjoy this clip of Soberano’s crazy Mexican destroyer.
MLW returns to PPV for Saturday Night SuperFight on November 7 in Chicago. The show will stream live through VEEPS.
The Contra Unit’s message to MLW is assimilate or surrender.
Mark Coffey defeated Beastman in a lightning match. 10 minutes on the clock. Beastman trucked through the Glasgow boy. Not even his mates on the outside could slow down the monster. After connecting on a cannonball into the corner, Kimchee urged the big man to go high risk. Big mistake. Coffey dodged the Vader Bomb. A jumping side kick upside the head put Beastman down, and Coffey earned the win with 6:17 remaining on the clock. Afterward, the Glasgow Boys bullied interviewer Rich Bocchini and called out the Good Brothers for the MLW tag titles.
I think a teaser aired for the Unbound Co. from NJPW, but I’m not sure it’s them. Do they like stylish hats?
Austin Aries deemed himself as the Phantom of the Opera Cup. He trifled in Mistico’s match to screw the luchador out of the tournament. That was Aires’ biggest threat. He isn’t worried about the likes of Matt Riddle. Strikes are only effective if they make contact. Aries claims to be too quick for Riddle.
Rina & Saya Kamitani defeated Shotzi & Lady Frost. There was a funny dynamic of Shotzi and Frost stiffing each other as enemies who are partners. Stardom’s H.A.T.E. worked more as a unit. A heel kick from Kamitani knocked Frost out of the ring. Rina finished Shotzi on a Gory bomb to pin the MLW women’s champion. Afterward, the losers started fighting each other.
The show closed with Contra laying out more bodies. Fireball! I couldn’t tell who the victims were.
This episode of Fusion was fast-paced and breezy. There was a brawl, a lucha libre contest, a hoss fight, and a women’s tag team bout with Joshi. I like the different styles of matchups and exposure to talent from CMLL and Stardom. I was already familiar with the work of the luchadores. H.A.T.E. was fresh for my eyes. If you just want to skim for cool matches, then Templario versus Soberano Jr. and the women’s main event are the sweet spots.
MLW Fusion airs Thursday nights at 8 pm ET on Tubi, Saturday nights at 6:05 pm ET on YouTube, 9 pm ET on VEEPS, 10 pm ET on beIN SPORTS, and Mondays on NJPW World.
