FC Köln goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler was happy to see his team jump out in front of Bayern Munich in the DFB-Pokal, but also felt the walls closing in as the two teams went into halftime with the Bavarians
leading 2-1.
In the end, Bayern Munich won 4-1, but Zieler thinks the Billy Goats can take a lot out of the loss.
“We felt today we have a chance in every game. We knew a lot of things had to go in our favor. We caused Bayern some problems today. The first half was very decent, which made it even worse to go into the break trailing 2:1. In the second half, Bayern developed their dominance and that made it more difficult for us. But we tried everything. You can go out of the DFB-Pokal against Bayern. The team showed a good performance and we need to take strength from that,” Zieler said (as captured by FCBayern.com).
FC Köln did put out an awesome effort early on, but faded against the overwhelming Bavarians. Maybe next time around, the Billy Goats will have a better chance to hanging with Bayern Munich a bit longer.
Bayern Munich traveled to Cologne for a midweek DFB-Pokal tilt with FC Köln.
Heading into the match, the Bavarians were riding high, but the squad knew that FC Köln would not be an easy out in front of its home crowd. Ultimately, Bayern Munich pulled out a 4-1 victory doing exactly what they have done to every other opponent it has had of late — wear them down and pounce.
