Kendrick Law’s season is officially done.
On Wednesday, the Detroit Lions announced that they’ve placed Law on injured reserve after the fifth-round rookie suffered a torn ACL during a non-contract drill in OTAs. Because Law was placed on IR before roster cutdowns, he is not eligible to return during the 2026 season.
While Law wasn’t projected to win a starting role on offense, he had made a strong impression in the locker room and with coaches.
“Our guys, they fell in love with him immediately because
he does have the grit that it takes to play with us,” Lions receivers coach Scottie Montgomery said this week. “Very disappointed and frustrated for him because he, physically, was ready, his body was ready. His body, coming from where he came from, from the SEC to this is an easy transition, physically, for him. Really wanted to see how it worked out in training camp. But, I like where he is right now. He’s working his butt off every day to make sure that when he comes back, we’ll get a lot out of him. He’s a good pick. Like him. Like him a lot.”
In his place, the Lions added three UFL receivers to compete. Two—Lucky Jackson and Tarik Black—were reported on Tuesday night. On Wednesday, they announced the third: former Columbus Aviators receiver Tay Martin.
Martin went undrafted in 2022, but spent the next two seasons with the 49ers, appearing in two games solely on special teams. After short stints with the Titans and Commanders, Martin went to the UFL and had a very successful season in 2026. With the Aviators, Martin had 42 catches (third in UFL), 483 yards (seventh) and two touchdowns.
All three new receivers were on the field for Detroit’s final minicamp practice on Wednesday, and they’ll have a chance to make their case for the roster when the team returns to the field in late July.
