You would think it was a day filled with emotions for Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka, as the DFB-Pokal final vs. VfB Stuttgart represented his final game with the club.
His squad would go on to win 3-0, but the wily veteran did not want to dwell on his impending exit — he just wanted to celebrate with his boys one last time.
“I don’t think today is a farewell party – we’re celebrating winning the cup. I’ve already thanked Harry Kane. He absolutely delivered today – but he promised me he would.
We’ve been missing the cup in recent years. And if you were here tonight, you know why. This atmosphere is just incredibly special. I have to give credit to the Stuttgart fans too; they created a fantastic atmosphere. But of course, our fans were even louder,” Goretzka said (as captured by FCBayern.com).
Goretzka was a good, solid professional for Bayern Munich all the way down to the final beer that was cracked open. For the player and the rest of the team, too, it does not get much better than that.
