UFC CEO, Dana White, doesn’t want UFC fighters getting mixed up in Zuffa Boxing.
That hasn’t stopped former UFC bantamweight champion, Sean O’Malley, from trying to worm his way into the “sweet science.” In fact, “Suga” believes it’s just a matter of time before White and Co. yield and start setting up crossover boxing bouts.
“I feel like I will headline a Zuffa Boxing match someday,” O’Malley told Kairouz Bros. “I haven’t talked to the UFC about that ever. I actually have and they
said no. They were like, ‘Nah, we’re not doing that.’ I feel like there will be a time when the UFC guys are heading over to Zuffa Boxing.”
“I just feel like there’s interesting matchups,” O’Malley continued, without naming names. “I would like to headline a Zuffa Boxing match someday against a real professional boxer. Not the best of the best — yet — but I would like to test my skills.”
Maybe there’s hope for that “Tank” Davis fight after all.
O’Malley (18-3, 1 NC) will first have to get through ranked contender Yadong Song in the UFC 324 co-main event on Sat. night from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. “Suga” is looking to rebound from consecutive title losses to Merab Dvalishvili and could find himself right back in the mix with a victory over the “Kung Fu Kid.”
