Some good news (assuming) for our weary squad for this international break, with both Reece James and Moisés Caicedo set for a bit of time off rather than having to travel around and keep piling on the wear and tear.
Reecey did get called up initially by number-one fan Thomas Tuchel, but as confirmed by both the club and The FA earlier today (Monday), our Captain has been withdrawn from the national team. The FA’s decision follows “medical assessments” on the right back, though Chelsea haven’t given
any official reason. Presumably (hopefully), it’s just a precautionary move and a bit of much-needed workload maintenance. James did show off a nice scrape on his shin after the Liverpool match, though he seemed no worse for the wear otherwise. Chelsea have been very careful in managing his workload in an effort to keep him healthy and fit for an extended period of time.
We’ve not been as careful in managing Caicedo’s workload — and in fairness, we haven’t had to be — but it’s great to see that Ecuador have decided to let him to skip out on the October set of fixtures, and their friendlies against Mexico and the USMNT, by not calling him up. Caicedo has been running on fumes and dealing with a few niggles for a while now.
Time to get some rest, boys!
