After a slow start the past couple of games, the Arizona Wildcats got off to a fast start against the Cincinnati Bearcats on Saturday. After a little bit of a lull the rest of the first half, the Wildcat offense exploded in the second half and really put the game out of reach of Cincy, with Arizona winning 34-7.
There were plenty of outstanding performances for Arizona during the win. Read on below to see who made the list for the Players of the Game.
Offense: The Offensive Line
Saturday night was the offensive line’s best showing
of the year, hands down. Noah Fifita was sacked three times last night, but that mainly stemmed from coverage downfield or Noah holding on to the ball a little too long. There were also around three silly penalties they didn’t need to commit. However, Arizona also had it’s best night rushing the football, and that’s not by accident. The running backs had plenty of open lanes to run through. The ‘Cats averaged just under six yards per carry and the line also did a pretty decent job at pass pro throughout the night. This type of game, and better, will be needed as the season moves along.
Defense: Chase Kennedy, LB
- Game Stats: 7 tackles, 1 TFL, 0.5 sack
This was a difficult choice, however, Kennedy was a player that stood out all night, even when he didn’t make the tackle. Kennedy was a tornado all night, constantly around the ball carrier or created havoc in the backfield. Kennedy was extremely violent during the pass rush and has seemed to take a huge step in that regard this season. There were a few times that the ball was snapped and Kennedy was in the backfield in an instant. Overall, he made sure his presence was felt on Saturday.
Special Teams: Michael Salgado-Medina, K
- Game Stats: 2-for-2 with a long of 35-yards
MSM had himself a good night. He may not have had a long field goal, but he made both of his attempts and did a great job of bouncing back after an extremely inconsistent performance in Pullman last week.
