The Cleveland Browns got their offseason off to a quick start with the firing of HC Kevin Stefanski and the retaining of GM Andrew Berry. Due to some limitations in the NFL rules, things have somewhat
slowed down since then, with a few interviews and reports of requested interviews for the team, all while John Harbaugh was the top candidate for every team , besides the Baltimore Ravens, looking for a coach.
Harbaugh has all but signed to take over the New York Giants job, leaving the rest of the carousel ready to spin quickly. We ranked the Giants as the second-best job early in the process, noting that the three most important things for candidates were:
- Ownership
- Quarterback
- Power
A lot has happened with the Browns coaching search as we seem to be just a day or two away from a final decision. After Cleveland added a new name to the search this weekend and heads out to Los Angeles for their final scheduled interview, the Browns will be in compliance with the Rooney Rule and ready to hire their next head coach.
At this moment, there are five remaining candidates for the head coach job in Cleveland:
- Ravens OC Todd Monken – Interviewed. Completed second interview
- Browns DC Jim Schwartz – Interviewed. Completed second interview
- Commanders run game coordinator Anthony Lynn – Interviewed
- Jaguars OC Grant Udinski – Interviewed. Completed second interview
- Rams pass game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase – Interviewed. Now scheduled for a second interview
Udinski and Scheelhaase are considered the favorites for the job at the moment.
The others who have either interviewed for the Browns head coach position or been connected to it include:
- Bengals OC Dan Pitcher – Interviewed
- Browns OC Tommy Rees – Interviewed and reportedly eliminated from the search
- Seahawks DC Aden Durde – Interviewed
- Former Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel – Interviewed. Reportedly taking the Chargers OC job
- Chargers DC Jesse Minter – Interviewed. Has reportedly withdrawn his name, Ravens new HC
- Rams DC Chris Shula – Requested
- Packers DC Jeff Hafley – Secret interview?
We will continue to update the tracker as we have more information.
With five names left and two favorites, who do you want the Browns to hire and who do you think they will?
