The first half of the New York Jets game against the Cincinnati Bengals is in the books, and the Jets are trailing the Bengals, 24 – 13.
The game opened with the Jets on defense. They immediately allowed
a long Bengals drive before the Bengals ultimately kicked a short field goal for an early 3 – 0 lead.
The Jets took over on offense and turned the ball over on downs on an ill-conceived fourth down rushing attempt deep in Jets territory. The Bengals got the ball and quickly scored a touchdown on a Joe Flacco tush push goal line run. The Jets were already down by double digits and there were still more than five minutes left in the first quarter. Needless to say, things were not looking good for the Jets.
The first quarter ended with the Jets with the ball in their own territory and the score Bengals 10, Jets 0. The Jets put together a decent drive highlighted by a 25 yard Isaiah Williams run before settling for a field goal, bringing the score to 10 – 3, Bengals early in the second quarter.
The Bengals instantly responded, putting together a quick drive ending with a 44 yard Joe Flacco touchdown pass to Tee Higgins to give the Bengals a 17 – 3 lead early in the second quarter.
The Jets came right back with a long touchdown drive of their own. Justin Fields found Tyler Johnson on two big plays, the latter of which was a 15 yard strike in the end zone. That got the Jets within a touchdown at 17 – 10 with a little more than five minutes remaining in the first half. It was the first touchdown the Jets scored in the first half of any game since opening day.
With a little more than a minute left in the half Joe Flacco hit Chase Brown for his second touchdown pass of the first half. That gave the Bengals a 24 – 10 lead.
The Jets closed the half with a field goal as time expired to pull within 11 points going into the locker room.
We go into the second half with the Jets trailing the Bengals 24 – 13.
