The NL East leading Atlanta Braves, with the joint second best record in baseball, have made a somewhat predictable roster move before the first game versus the Miami Marlins.
The Braves have optioned Dylan Dodd to Triple-A Gwinnett this morning. They have replaced him with Rolddy Muñoz. Dylan spit hot fire last night, striking out two and allowing only one hit over
three rather low leverage innings last night. He did his job perfectly last night, but modern MLB bullpen management detests having unavailable pitchers if it can be avoided. So he is on the Gwinnett shuttle for now, but I’m sure he’ll be back.
Replacing Dodd is Rolddy Muñoz, who made it inside the house because he is a reliever with options. Muñoz had a bit of a shaky debut with the Braves last season. But he brings a 96 MPH sinker with him along with a slider with Gwinnett. Let’s hope Rolddy brought the sugar cookies and not the 9.68 FIP that he posted in three appearances last season. Welcome back, Rolddy!
We still don’t know if the Dodd moves mean anything about Didier Fuentes coming back to grab the fifth starter spot. But that’s something we’ll worry about when the Braves need a fifth.
