Despite going down 1-0 extremely early, Bayern Munich ended up comfortably beating VfL Osnabrück in their opening round game of the DFB Pokal. Tom Bischof, who was handed a rare start in midfield next to Joshua Kimmich, happened to score the goal that gave FC Bayern the lead, one they would not relinquish until full time.
“I thought we had the game under control, we were calm and took our chances in the first half,” Bischof told the media after the game (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
“I’m happy we advanced,
it’s never a given in such games. As far as I’m concerned, I’m always happy to start and get minutes with the boys. I’m also happy for my goal, which was important today.”
In his first season at Bayern, Vincent Kompany mainly used Bischof as a stopgap at fullback. Now that the squad has been strengthened at those positions, the 21-year-old is looking to make his impact on the midfield. Scoring against Osnabrück in a must-win knockout game is a good way to recommend yourself for more starting minutes.
