John Cena announced via a video package that aired during Saturday Night’s Main Event this past weekend that his final opponent will be determined by a 16-man tournament beginning on Monday Night Raw next
week in Boston. Before we get to that, WWE has to determine the list of names who will participate in said tournament.
Cena claimed it would be names from Raw, SmackDown, NXT, and maybe even wrestlers who don’t currently work for the company. It would also be randomized. Sure enough, Raw General Manager Adam Pearce was shown on this week’s episode in Rio Rancho hanging out backstage straight up pulling names from a tumbler the way they used to determine the order of entrants for the Royal Rumble.
What an objectively hilarious way to determine who will retire John Cena, one of the top stars in the history of the company.
Anyway, they didn’t actually reveal the entirety of the field this week. Instead, Pearce simply announced two of the first round match-ups we’re going to get when WWE rolls through Boston:
- Rusev vs. Damian Priest
 - Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Sheamus

He also revealed SmackDown GM Nick Aldis will draw names for the next pair of match-ups on this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown.
