Rutgers will be losing one of its captains from the 2025 season as defensive end/ EDGE Jordan Walker has announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal via his social media accounts. He is the fourth Scarlet Knight to announce their intentions to enter the portal this offseason, joining running backs Samuel Brown V and CJ Campbell, along with wide receiver/returner Dane Partridge.
In the 2024 season, Walker was the best pass rusher on the team and recorded a team-high four sacks for that year.
His production took a step back in 2025, as he recorded one sack and one fumble recovery. He did, however, record six more total tackles in 2025. It should also be mentioned that he appeared in two more games in 2025 than in 2024 and had all five of his starts in the 2025 season.
The 6-foot-4, 268-pound defensive end out of Rochester, New York, originally came to the Knights as a walk-on wide receiver. It was not until two seasons later that he would flip to defensive end. During his last two seasons at Rutgers, Walker recorded 47 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 5.0 sacks, and one fumble recovery in 24 games.
His departure provides a further shakeup at a position that is already losing its two starters, Bradley Weaver and Eric O’Neill, to graduation. To add on top of that, in an unrelated matter, Rutgers dismissed defensive line coach Collin Ferrell yesterday, so they will have a new coach for the position next year. Due to the capable talent in waiting being very young still, this is likely a position that the Knights will target heavily in the transfer portal. There will be a near brand-new look on the defensive line next season.
Walker leaves Rutgers with one year of eligibility remaining.
