Golden State Warriors basketball has returned as the team tips off preseason action with Sunday night’s matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers. The game is scheduled for 5:30 PM PT in San Francisco and can be watched on ESPN and NBC Sports Bay Area.
Previously with the Warriors:
Golden State takes the court for the first time since their disappointing playoff exit against the Minnesota Timberwolves last season. Stephen Curry suffered a hamstring injury in Game 1, sidelining him for the remainder of the series and effectively ending
the Warriors’ postseason hopes as the Timberwolves went on to win four straight.
During Warriors Media Day this week, Curry reflected on that moment, admitting he still thinks about how things might have been different had he not gotten hurt.
What to watch for tonight:
It took some time — largely due to the long-drawn-out Jonathan Kuminga free-agency saga — but the Warriors’ roster is finally set. With Kuminga’s two-year, $48.5 million deal officially signed, the team moved quickly to finalize a series of veteran additions including Al Horford, Seth Curry, and the returns of Gary Payton II and De’Anthony Melton.
The focus now shifts to how these pieces fit alongside the core of Curry, Draymond Green, and Jimmy Butler. Horford’s combination of perimeter shooting and defense, in particular, adds a new dimension to Golden State’s spacing and frontcourt versatility — something the team has lacked over the years.
