Barcelona dropped points for the first time this season and will go into the first international break in fourth place in the La Liga table thanks to a 1-1 draw away to Rayo Vallecano on Sunday, and Hansi Flick was not happy with what he saw from his team.
The Catalans were involved in a chaotic match with tons of transitions and chances for both sides, and Flick thinks Barça contributed to the chaos
by making a lot of mistakes. Flick also criticized the team’s lack of intensity, an issue they’ve displayed in all three games so far this season.
“I think the point was enough for us. We didn’t deserve more. We lacked intensity, we made a lot of mistakes. We can play better. We could have scored more goals, the second could have come in the first half, but Rayo played very well. I’m not happy with my team today. We lost a lot of balls and we have to do better.”
Mistakes will always be part of football because there are humans playing, but the lack of intensity is a cause for concern. Barça’s relentless rhythm with and without the ball was their special sauce last season, and they cannot stop playing hard or things will get worse.
Flick and his troops must correct their issues soon because Barça’s schedule gets busy and tough after the break, with important league games and two brutal Champions League matches away to Newcastle and at home to reigning champions PSG.
