Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany knew the questions about Jamal Musiala’s health would be coming and the coach admitted that the club has known about Jamal Musiala’s condition for some time.
Kompany also said that the team has been working with the Germany international to manage the situation. It was a stark and revealing press conference for Kompany ahead of the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup.
“This is the first time it’s been public. So, I understand there are many questions. But the initial
shock for us was a long time ago. Therefore, we’re not talking about it that much at the moment. We’ve been prepared for some time. We’ve received much more information since then and made decisions with the help of leading experts. Jamal has everyone’s support. Internally, we’ve reached a point where it’s not discussed much anymore. We have our procedures in place, and we’re very optimistic,” said Kompany (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “Every decision was made based on the best possible information. We know how to handle it. He’ll be training individually this week. I spoke to Jamal and he said I can speak about that. He made a slight change to his treatment, which caused some side effects. It’s perfectly normal to make changes to a treatment plan. Now we want to get things back to how it was before.”
“He has made tremendous progress in his football. You’ve already seen what he did in those 5-10 minutes. He’s showing that in training as well. We’re looking forward to seeing him show it again in matches.”
At the end of the press conference, @iMiaSanMia summed up everything that was discussed about Musiala:
What has been said by Kompany and Eberl today about Musiala’s condition:
-The club has been aware for the entire last season
-His teammates were also aware the whole time
-It’s no longer a big topic of discussion internally
-The two recent incidents against Leipzig and Heidenheim were side effects of the change of medication
-They will now revert to the prior plan where these incidents didn’t happen
-Musiala won’t be in the squad tomorrow to avoid putting him under further pressure now that his condition has become public
-Individual training this week
-Purely from a footballing perspective, he’s made progress
-The club has been supporting him the entire time and will continue to do so
This is obviously a delicate situation, but Bayern Munich seems determined to make it work and ensure that Musiala in the best possible environment to deal with it.
