Top Pitching Performance of the Week
It wasn’t a great week for Brewers pitchers, but we’ll choose Quinn Priester here. Priester started Friday’s comfortable win over the Cardinals, and after 5 1/3 innings of two-run ball, he earned his 13th win of the year, extending his franchise record streak to 12 straight winning decisions. As Curt Hogg noted in the post below, the Brewers have also won 18 straight games in which Priester has pitched; the only longer streaks belong to Carl Hubbell and Roger Clemens, who between them have over 200
career bWAR.
Top Hitting Performance of the Week
Three Brewers had an OPS north of .970 while batting over a dozen times this week, but I’m going to leapfrog Jake Bauers and Jackson Chourio and go with Caleb Durbin. In 22 plate appearances this week Durbin went 8-for-19 with two doubles, a home run, and three walks. He also stole two bases, and in the tenth inning of Saturday’s thrilling victory, Durbin knocked in the tying run with an RBI double and then scored the winning run when Andruw Monasterio knocked him in.
Injury Notes & Roster Moves
- Early in the week, a handful of roster moves occurred. On Monday, Grant Anderson was activated from the 15-day injured list and Craig Yoho was returned to Triple-A Nashville. On Tuesday, Rhys Hoskins returned from his lengthy stint on the 10-day injured list and Anthony Seigler was optioned to Nashville.
- Tuesday also saw the return of Chad Patrick, who started that day’s game and then made his second relief appearance of the year on Sunday. To make room on the roster, Carlos Rodriguez was sent back to Nashville.
- During Sunday’s game, Jose Quintana injured his calf while covering first base. He left the ballpark in a walking boot, and we’ll await word on the extent of the injury.
- In the bullpen, we await news of the return of two of the Brewers’ top relievers, Nick Mears and Trevor Megill. Both have been throwing, though there was talk of a possible setback after Megill threw live batting practice early in the week. The team still sounds optimistic that he could return within the next week, and it sounds like Mears is getting close, too.
- DL Hall has been playing catch, and it’s not out of the question that he could be back before the season ends.
- Logan Henderson will not be back before the season ends, but he’s beginning to ramp up his throwing and could be a surprise postseason roster possibility.
