The Los Angeles Rams (2-2) snatched the soul of the Philadelphia Eagles (2-2) at SoFi Lincoln Financial on Sunday afternoon; mounting a 10 pt comeback to win 24-20. The conditions and circumstances were far from ideal going into and throughout the majority of the game. But Los Angeles finally, and I mean finally, figured out a way to win a close game. Since their Week 3 loss last year to the Eagles, the Rams had endured significant one score losses that just hampered the team from reaching the next
level. The hope is that today’s win instills in the team a sense of belief that even when their best football isn’t there, they can win in any game. Here are four major takeaways from Sunday’s win…
1. Tale of Two Stafford’s
Stafford single handedly gave the Eagles points when he threw two interceptions; giving the Eagles short field position. Then time and time again, Stafford was just missing his wide receivers. Some of that was the wet conditions but some of that was just trying to make something happen when he just needed to take what the defense was giving him.
But…the reason that Stafford has been so great in his career and aged well into his late 30s is because of his ability to bounce back. Regardless of his box score production, Stafford is just gritty and can lead a game winning drive or 4th quarterback in any circumstance or condition. He notched his 40th career 4th quarter comeback; joining Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and Ben Roethlisberger as the only quarterbacks to do so.
2. Kyren Williams puts team on his back
The Rams stars were very quiet throughout the majority of the contest but Kyren Williams was the gamechanger. Even though Matthew Stafford gets credit for the 4th quarter comeback as a QB, this was Kyren William’s game. He rushed 16 times for 80 yards and 2 touchdowns, including the game winner. He was also Stafford’s security blanket, hauling in 10 receptions (13 targets) for 67 yards. Vic Fangio and the Eagles defense were determined to not let the Rams get their explosives on offense but they were unable to account for Kyren all afternoon.
3. Essential NFC win & Payback
The Rams could not afford to drop to 1-3 but they also could not afford to be 1-2 in the NFC Conference when they play in the NFC West division – the best division in football…again. Dropping to a 1-2 record in the NFC Conference would have probably made the Rams a wildcard team at best. Now, they are 2-1 in the NFC and remain firmly in the conversation for the NFC West divisional crown and a top seed.
The other huge factor was that this win “righted” a lot wrongs that took play throughout the 2025 season and the Denver Broncos game in Week 3. The Rams just could not seem to win a one-score game. They had losses to: Philadelphia (Week 3), San Francisco (Week 5), Carolina (Week 13), Seattle (Week 16), Atlanta (Week 17), and Seattle (NFC Championship). All of these one score losses came on the road except Week 5. The Rams finally got the monkey off their back in those close contests and gave some overdue payback.
4. Special Teams is still an Ongoing Mess
Not only do the Rams coaches, players, and fans know their special teams is a circus, but the media sees it weekly too. In Week 3, it was Emmanuel Forbes drawing a penalty. This week, Harrison Mevis missed a field goal attempt, hit a kickoff out of bounds, and the Rams coverage team struggled to contain Britain Covey.
It doesn’t matter who the Rams special teams coach is, the Rams just can’t ever seem to fix the issue. And it continues to show up every week.
