After a sweep in their first Big Ten game of the season, the Huskers finish their three week home stand with a sweep of Ohio State.
Teraya Sigler was suited up, but the Huskers chose to stick with Skyler Pierce to start the game, having Sigler come in to play back row. Pierce took advantage of her opportunity tying Virginia Adriano and Mania Ogbechie with a team high seven kills. She also contributed two service aces on the night.
Andi Jackson and Harper Murray had six kills each, while Bergan Reilly
had four. Jackson, Reilly, and Kenna Cogill led in blocking each of them tallying four. Olivia Mauch and Campbell Flynn also had two aces on the night.
#1 Nebraska 3, Ohio State 0
Set 1: Nebraska 25, Ohio State 19
Ohio State came out swinging against the Huskers and they kept the match close through most of the set. Olivia Mauch had some great ups, including a pancake to extend a long rally. Nebraska had several errors and struggled to get a kill to hit the ground. Ohio State was playing tough defense. Ohio State led 15-13 going in to the media break. The Buckeyes did a good job of using the hands of the Husker blockers to a get a touch as the ball sailed out of bounds.
The Huskers took the lead for good at 16 points and they didn’t really look back. Skyler Pierce closed out the set with a kill down the line. While they started off slow, the Huskers hit .258 on the match and they held the Buckeyes to .086.
Set 2: Nebraska 25, Ohio State 10
After Ohio State starting off with a few points, the Huskers went on a 4-0 run behind the serving of Olivia Mauch. This set was another one with some great rallies. Pierce two long rallies with a block and a kill as the Huskers start to pull away and make it 9-5.
Campbell Flynn went in to serve for Andi Jackson and she went on a 5-0 run, including two aces. Nebraska picked up it’s serving and it’s blocking game in this set. This led to more kills and more Buckeye errors. The set ends with a Jackson block. The Huskers hit.320 in the second set and had four service aces.
Set 3: Nebraska 25 , Ohio State 12
The Huskers got off to a quick start behind good serving by Olivia Mauch and Laney Choboy. Then Harper Murray took over at the service line going on a 5-0 run to make it 10-2. Skyler Pierce was taking over and hitting the ball hard.
Freshman outside hitter Jayden Robinson went in to the match for Pierce and found a kill with her first swing. With a couple solid kills by Virginia Adriano, the Huskers went in to the media time out up 15-7. This set saw a lot of younger players get in and get some action as Kenna Cogill came in and Robinson and Cogill both showed great defense getting some blocks for the Huskers.
The match ended with Bergan Reilly winning a joist at the net.
