Tensions are rising behind the scenes at Bayern Munich as the future of Max Eberl faces serious scrutiny. The club’s board member for sport is approaching the end of his contract, and its time for the big boys at the club to make that choice, except it looks like they pretty much know what they want.
Per a report from Sport Bild’s Christian Falk (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), a few members of the supervisory board (it should not be hard to guess who) have already expressed their disapproval of a potential
contract extension, leaving the executive in a precarious position. It is clear that Eberl will have to fight really hard to keep his job as the pressure mounts within the club hierarchy.
The situation is set to come to a head very soon. The supervisory board is scheduled to hold a decisive vote to determine Eberl’s future during its next meeting at the end of August. Why the end of August if his contract expires in 2027? Well, it’s hard to be the board member for sport for a club that doesn’t really think you fit in with their vision, especially if you’re on the outside looking in. With internal support appearing to dwindle, the upcoming weeks will be crucial in deciding if he should remain a part of the long term strategy for the club. Whether this is a simple disagreement over policy or a deeper rift regarding the direction of the team, the upcoming vote will settle the uncertainty surrounding his role once and for all.
Eberl, on the other hand, might find success in his transfer market endeavours recently, but the question is whether its the kind of success the rest of the club is looking for, or whether its enough at all. Either way, it can’t be nice to have all the other kids on the playground exclude you from the game.
Do you think Max Eberl has done enough to earn an extension, or is it time for a change in leadership? Let us know in the comments!
