Bayern Munich wonderkid Lennart Karl is in a good place right now. Though his form has arguably dipped since the year began, the 18-year-old is still an important part of Vincent Kompany’s side, and has parlayed that into chances with the German men’s national team in time to get into contention for Julian Nagelsmann’s World Cup squad this summer.
It’s enough to bring a smile to Bayern legend Karl-Heinz Rummenigge — and it’s not just Karl himself that has him feeling giddy about the future.
“Lennart
just turned 18 and has already debuted for the senior national team. The most important thing is helping him keep his feet on the ground, but we have the right coach and players to guide him,” said Rummenigge for Spanish outlet Diario AS, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. “There’s a clear hierarchy again with leaders like [Harry] Kane, [Manuel] Neuer, [Joshua] Kimmich, and also [Michael] Olise, who is growing rapidly. It reminds me of my early days with leaders like [Franz] Beckenbauer, [Gerd] Müller, and [Sepp] Maier.”
It isn’t often to get a favorable comparison to the good old days from a legend. That’s just how good the vibes at FC Bayern are under Vincent Kompany.
