The Blue Jays responded well to the Mariners taking the first two games of the series by crushing them twice at home and dimming the franchise’s chances of going to its very first World Series. Both teams will need two wins to advance, and once again, the Mariners’ fate is in their own hands. Will they rise to the challenge or wilt in the face of adversity?

Lineups

Pitching Matchup
Bryce Miller will take the hill for the Mariners for the second time in this series against Kevin Gausman for the Blue Jays. Miller was huge for the Mariners in Game 1, with the team coming off of the 15-inning classic against the Tigers in the divisional round, and Seattle will likely need another star-making performance from him here to take Game 5. Miller went six innings in Game One with two hits, one earned run, three walks, and three Ks. The 27-year-old will likely have his work cut out for him with a Blue Jays lineup that has made some major adjustments in the face of the first two games of the series and come roaring back to tie it all up at two games apiece.
Kevin Gausman will be back on the hill for the Blue Jays. The Mariners gave him his first postseason loss this year in Game 1, after coming off a dominant performance over the Yankees in the divisional round. The Mariners got runs off of Gausman, which eventually led to his early departure after 5 and 2/3rds and his taking the loss on the day. But the Mariners struggled mightily against Max Scherzer and Shane Bieber, and facing another All-Star caliber veteran could be more trouble for the Mariners in this series.
Today in Mariners History
The Mariners have never played a game on October 17th, so there’s nothing to report. Mariners fans, we are in uncharted territory. This is a chance for the team to make its own history.
