Monday morning is made for options… I’ll take a triple.
HELLO 5-STAR OFFENSIVE LINEMAN
For all of the fun we have with skill position players that are rated as a high 4-Star or 5-Star player, it seems a little odd that more highly ranked offensive lineman aren’t flocking to Notre Dame. And then I remember… that’s actually not true at all. Notre Dame consistently recruits good to elite offensive linemen every year, and the 2027 cycle appears to be no different. 5-Star OL Oluwasemilore Olubobola from St. Peter’s Prep in New Jersey,
is set to announce his commitment tomorrow — and the predictions are all in Notre Dame’s favor here. Good for us.
THE COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF DEBACLE
It’s hard to know where to begin with all of this as we continue to talk about playoff expansion as part of the yearly offseason ritual. I offer this dichotomy of sorts. Andy and Ari are known flip-floppers and are also silver-tongued enough to make it sound as if they aren’t. And yet… they consistently promoted conference realignment for the cause of “more better games” and when that concept failed, as conferences screwed around with their own schedules to give easier paths to some while another handful of schools made sure their out of conference games were cupcakes — it all gave way to the notion that the CFP should expand. And now they’re aghast at what may come? Welcome to the consequences of actions.
On the other end of the spectrum is another national commentator in Josh Pate. Say what you will about Pate, and I don’t agree with plenty of what he has to say, but he has always been consistent when it comes to the regular season of college football and the dangers of expansion and realignment. In my opinion, he has been much more realistic about what consequences will happen as the result of college presidents twisting things around under the banner of “fairness.”
HAN SOLO IS PISSED
More committees. My lord, what have we gotten ourselves into with all of this nonsense. Politics pretty much ruins everything fun, so the fact that politics is the number one driver behind the movement for sweeping changes across college sports means that we’re all screwed.
SPEAKING OF EXPANSION
We haven’t discussed the unholy expansion of the NCAA Basketball Tournament. Again… completely unnecessary and a detriment to something great. We used to live in a proper country.
