At the end of last season, Jaylen Brown was battling a torn meniscus, which led to his playing not being what Celtics fans are use to. That is no longer a problem this year, as Brown has been playing his best
basketball 8 games into this season
To this point in the season, Brown is averaging a career high 26.8 points on a career high 52% shooting percentage. He has 6 games of 20+ points and 4 games of 30+ points thus far and has been doing it very efficiently.
It is his two point shot that has been his best weapon this season, Brown is shooting 59% from inside the arc and 59% on shots inside the foul line but outside the restricted area.
This was extremely evident in Monday’s loss to the Jazz, where Brown scored 36 points while shooting 13/28, but 0/9 from three.

Brown has done a great job this season at using his strength to over power guys to get to his spot, as he did to Jazz rookie Ace Bailey on the play above.

This is something we know JB has been working on, all the weight lifting in the deep end of the pool is paying off. This is great strength to throw NBA players around like rag dolls and get to whatever spot he wants. He is finishing these plays well too. He has shot 89% on shots around the rim, only missing 3 shots within 4 feet of the basket this season.
That number will likely fall off as Brown has been between 63% to 71% every season since 2018-19. Yet, it also shows that Brown is healthy, which is important. His knee was a problem in the playoffs last year and it is good to see that he is feeling better.
It has been so fun to just watch Jaylen operate this season, he gets the ball, gets to his sport, creates the necessary space and knocks down the jumper.

The game just looks so easy for Brown right now, easy in a way I don’t think it ever has. His turnovers are up but that is going to happen as his usage rate and his assists percentage rise to career highs with a 34% usage rate and 23% assist rate, according to Cleaning the Glass.
Offensively, Brown is playing at the highest level of his career right now. He is scoring the ball at will and getting to whatever spot he wants, whenever he wants. His handle and strength have played a big part in Brown’s leap as a scorer this season.
These are the things you want to see Brown doing as the Celtics, hopefully, get back into title contention next season. For this season, Brown is going to keep the Celtics competitive in most games, that is how well he has been playing and how good of a player he has become.
