After a disappointing game 3 loss that once again featured plenty of offense in the first and not much the rest of the way, the Brewers are looking to avoid a winner-take-all game 5 in Milwaukee as they’ll battle the Cubs at Wrigley Field for the second consecutive night.
The Cubs scored all four of their runs in the first inning of last night’s game, ultimately winning 4-3 as the Brewers were unable to capitalize on a few late-game opportunities.
Looking to prevent the Cubs from evening up the series
is right-hander Freddy Peralta. Peralta allowed a leadoff homer to Michael Busch in Saturday’s game 1, but he bounced back to allow just one more run through six innings, striking out nine to put Milwaukee in position to win. Opposing Peralta is Matthew Boyd, who faced him in that same game 1. Boyd had far less success, however, allowing six runs (two earned) and recording just two outs before being pulled from the game as the Crew ultimately won 9-3.
Rather than rolling out the same lineup he used in game 1 against Boyd, Pat Murphy has opted to push Christian Yelich into the leadoff spot, where he started Wednesday night. Jackson Chourio once again bats second and starts in left, followed by William Contreras and Brice Turang. Andrew Vaughn returns to the lineup against the lefty, followed by Caleb Durbin, Sal Frelick, Blake Perkins, and Joey Ortiz.
First pitch is at 8:08 p.m. CT on HBO Max, TBS, and the Brewers Radio Network.
