For the second week of the World Cup, we turned our attention to Liverpool’s stars at the tournament. With every one of the club’s representative having played two games, won three Man of the Match awards, and Reds making more goal contributions than players from any other club it seemed like we had plenty to celebrate.
In the end, though, there was one very clear winner in TLO’s latest SB Nation Reacts! poll, in partnership with FanDuel, and that’s Cody Gakpo.
Liverpool’s Dutch forward ran away with
the vote to earn a dominant 63% win on the strength of two goals, an assist, and Man of the Match honours in the Netherlands’ 5-1 demolition of Sweden. Now the question becomes whether Gakpo can bring his Dutch form back to Liverpool, where he had probably the most disappointing season of his career in 2025-26.
Speaking of Sweden and disappointing 2025-26 seasons, Alexander Isak nabbed second with 17% of the vote for being that country’s attacking bright spot in the tournament and putting in the kinds of performances Liverpool fans will be hoping to see a few of next year at the club level.
