Week One of college football getting underway means Week One of the NFL regular season is less than a week away.
After three weeks of preseason this month, NFL teams were busy earlier this week as they worked quickly to trim down their active players to get to the standard 53-man roster.
There were 34 former Kentucky Wildcats
who participated in the NFL preseason, and 13 of them made an official 53-man roster. Those 13 former players were Ray Davis (Buffalo Bills), Bud Dupree (LA Chargers), Brandin
Echols (Pittsburgh Steelers), Luke Fortner (New Orleans Saints), Josh Hines-Allen (Jacksonville Jaguars), Darian Kinnard (Green Bay Packers), Bryce Oliver (Tennessee Titans), Dru Phillips (NY Giants), Wan’Dale Robinson (Giants), Chris Rodriguez Jr. (Washington Commanders), Carrington Valentine (Packers), Deone Walker (Bills) and Trevin Wallace (Carolina Panthers).
Bills rookie Maxwell Hairston will start the season on the injured reserve list after being selected in the first round of this spring’s NFL Draft.
Joining him on IR lists are Lonnie Johnson (Las Vegas Raiders), Will Levis (Titans), Josh Paschal (Detroit Lions), and Landon Young (Saints).
Brendan Bates (Cleveland Browns), Quinton Bohanna (Seattle Seahawks), Zion Childress (Dallas Cowboys), Eli Cox (Houston Texans), Mike Edwards (Kansas City Chiefs), Jamon Dumas-Johnson (Packers), and Keidron Smith (Denver Broncos) are each on their team’s practice squad.
Despite the most recent struggles of the Kentucky football program, they are clearly still producing talent that’s making it at the next level.
If you find yourself watching NFL action next week, odds are in favor of you seeing a former Wildcats either in the game or at least on the sideline.
