Newcastle United could face another major summer blow involving one of their most promising young players if interest in Lewis Hall keeps growing.
According to Football Insider, Hall is considering his long-term future following a disappointing season for Newcastle that saw the Magpies finish 12th in the Premier League and whiff entirely on clinching a European spot after reaching the Champions League’s Round of 16.
The 21-year-old was one of the club’s most consistent performers throughout the campaign,
and seeing the club tank the season might have planted some seeds of doubt about his future in Tyneside and whether or not he should bolt away this summer.
Hall made 46 appearances across all competitions, contributing one goal and two assists while establishing himself as a regular under Eddie Howe.
Despite that form, Hall was overlooked for England’s World Cup squad by Thomas Tuchel. Instead, fellow Newcastle defender and fellow sale candidate Tino Livramento earned a place in the squad despite missing significant time through injury during the season.
Football Insider claims Hall is now weighing up his future, with several top-tier clubs monitoring his situation, including Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea.
Any departure would represent a significant setback for Newcastle because Hall is only entering his prime and has developed quickly since arriving from Chelsea. Not only that, but he recently signed a long-term contract extension through 2032, which would go to trash in the event of his departure, leaving a massive gap in Newcastle’s squad.
The problem with these Hall whispers is that they don’t come alone, but rather add to those involving Livramento and his ever-growing links to a transfer away from Tyneside, particularly to Manchester City.
Newcastle have already sold Anthony Gordon to Barcelona and continue to face speculation surrounding several senior players as they attempt to reshape the squad following a difficult campaign, but losing both Hall and Livramento surely wasn’t on most fans’ perfect summer plot.
