According to his special teams coach Brian Mason, Indianapolis Colts kicker Spencer Shrader should be good to kick in London this weekend against the Washington Commanders—although he may be on a “kick count” in team practice this week (via The IndyStar’s Joel Erickson):
Per Mason, Shrader was booming kicks during his pre-game work ahead of last Sunday’s
Houston Texans nail-biting win, looking like his breakout form again from early last season before being lost to season-ending knee injuries.
However, he aggravated his groin during warmups, and at one point, was questionable to even continue kicking before persevering through and having a career kicking afternoon (via The Athletic’s James Boyd):
Shrader battled through the injury, and was a perfect 4 for 4 on field goal attempts—including a converted long of 58 yards and the game-winning 53 yard field goal with just 16 seconds left in regulation.
He’s a very strong candidate to be named AFC Player of the Week for Week 3 following his recent kicking heroics.
The Colts practice reports will be worth monitoring, but it sounds as though the Colts may take it easy on him, especially initially this week, and allow his groin some extra time to better heal ahead of Sunday’s London game.
